Profile
William Miller is a seasoned litigator who counsels clients in complex internal investigations, high-stakes criminal and government enforcement actions, and sensitive national security and cybersecurity matters. Drawing on his background in government and private practice, William’s experience leading investigations and managing civil and criminal litigation spans a range of industries, including health care, financial services, insurance and securities.
Most recently, William served as senior advisor and deputy chief of staff at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he helped Director Christopher Wray and other senior government leaders navigate major national security, cyber and criminal incidents. William previously worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Western District of North Carolina and as a trial attorney with the Public Integrity Section in Washington, D.C. As a federal prosecutor, William led sophisticated white-collar investigations and successfully tried cases involving allegations of securities fraud, bank fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, criminal tax violations and public corruption.

Tried a case involving allegations that a pair of former executives engaged in an accounting-fraud scheme designed to inflate the reported earnings of a publicly traded company.
Led the investigation and trial of a group of businessmen who participated in an alleged scheme to defraud the Small Business Administration and several banks.
Represented one of the largest health insurance and health care services companies in the United States in a series of internal investigations assessing regulatory and compliance risks.
Represented an individual in a civil enforcement action involving alleged violations of the False Claims Act stemming from federal early childhood education grants.
Represented a large North Carolina-based manufacturer in an internal investigation examining whether a foreign competitor was engaged in economic espionage.
