We compete in the courtroom and across the negotiating table – not with each other. We don’t just say teamwork is one of our intrinsic firm values, we live it with daily collaboration. Our attorneys are encouraged to participate in multiple practice groups. We also have a steadfast commitment to the pursuit of a diverse, equitable and inclusive firm, and we’re proud to be Mansfield certified as a testament to our ongoing efforts. To avoid internal competition and keep our focus on our clients, we don’t have billable hour requirements or origination credits. No, really. We also don’t advertise who is a shareholder, of counsel or associate. We’re all Robinson Bradshaw attorneys, and we’re all one team.
Whether joining Robinson Bradshaw as a summer associate, first-year associate or experienced attorney, your work will be substantive and varied from Day 1. Since we don’t have billable hour requirements or origination credits, there are no incentives for attorneys to churn unnecessary hours or keep work to themselves. Assignments are based entirely on client need, not arbitrary targets.
Our development program for first-year associates builds a well-rounded foundation of experience with cross-firm exposure to all different kinds of work, clients and people. Our junior lawyers have ample opportunities to brief complicated motions, draft deal documents, and conduct witness interviews and depositions. And as a Robinson Bradshaw attorney of any experience level, you will have the opportunity to work closely and in direct communication with our clients, playing a key role in contributing to our shared success. Our clients range from startups to Fortune 50 companies, and many have trusted us with their legal needs for decades.
You’ll be busy – but it won’t be busy work.
Don’t just take our word for it! Vault ranked us the No. 2 firm for satisfaction among the nation’s midsize firms, and we’re No. 4 for firm culture. Attorneys at Robinson Bradshaw tend to stick around, with an average shareholder tenure of 20 years. Why? We genuinely enjoy working here, and working with each other.
We also place an emphasis on taking care of our people. Our attorneys wear many hats and lead full lives outside of the office. You’ll have flexibility in your daily work schedule to be not just an attorney but also a parent, community member or other role that makes you, you. Our policies and benefits align to support the well-being of you and your family by taking a long-term view of your career with us. You’ll have access to a myriad of benefits including free employee-only health insurance, mental health resources, a generous profit-sharing plan and paid parental leave.
We work hard to serve our clients, and when they have emergencies, we are their first responders. But we also believe that to fully show up at work, you need time away to recharge. In addition to annual PTO, our signature “vacatical” program provides a rotating group of eligible attorneys with a three-week block of time off to completely unplug from work responsibilities.
We’re invested in your development and success. We devote a unique amount of time and energy to our hiring process because our goal is not to fill seats – it’s to find our future shareholders. This long-term perspective, and our culture that supports it, earned us Vault’s No. 4 ranking for career outlook. As you grow in your practice, you can chart your own path of work across relevant practice areas. Because we’re a one-firm firm, all of our attorneys have a stake in contributing to each other’s success, so you’ll have plenty of company along the way.
In fact, an integral part of Robinson Bradshaw’s culture is the support among our attorneys, so we’re proud to be highly rated for associate/partner relationships in Vault’s rankings. Associates are assigned formal mentors through their first-year rotation and again upon receiving a department assignment, but the informal opportunities for mentorship and sponsorship have no expiration date. Without rigid practice groups, our attorneys serve on teams that vary in size and membership, providing continual means to build relationships with different colleagues and learn from different types of work. We consider our attorneys to be each other’s best resource, and you’ll have ample opportunities to both teach and grow.
Service to others has been a foundational hallmark of our firm since its start, and we live out this value in many forms. Pro bono work is celebrated and encouraged at all levels, and both our individual attorneys and our firm are regularly recognized for the differences we make for our neighbors in need. Our attorneys are also community leaders and volunteers who can be found everywhere from chairing the boards of our region’s biggest nonprofit organizations to stocking the shelves at a food bank. Without the billable hour quotas found at other firms, you won’t face disincentives or barriers to finding your path to giving back.
In fact, it’s another of Robinson Bradshaw’s core values. At our firm, your peers are valedictorians and graduates from the best law schools across the country, former clerks from all levels of courts including SCOTUS, and editors-in-chief of law journals and reviews – and that’s before they even set foot in our door. Once here, our attorneys achieve exceptional results for our clients often across from or alongside Am Law 100 firms nationwide, and we handle the high-profile cases that you read about in the headlines. We take great pride in our thoughtful, intentional approach to hiring, so it’s no surprise that Vault ranked us No. 3 for selectivity among the nation’s midsize firms.
