Robinson Bradshaw attorney Melissa Romanzo was named to Charlotte Business Journal's 40 Under 40 class for 2023. The program honors local professionals who are making major strides in their careers while leaving a positive impact on their communities.
Dedicated to serving her community, Romanzo is a HealthCare Champion for Charlotte Triage. This is a collaboration among prominent businesses and law firms in Charlotte to support the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy and Legal Aid of North Carolina in expanding pro bono services for low-income residents. As one of only three HealthCare Champions, Romanzo works with the Center and Legal Aid to identify ways to recruit, train and support pro bono volunteers to serve clients and meet the community's critical needs. Charlotte Triage has been recognized for exemplary pro bono service since its inception in 2018.
Romanzo also serves as a member of the Development Committee for Safe Alliance, a nonprofit organization that works to provide hope and healing for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families. The committee proposes policies and develops plans, procedures and schedules. Additionally, Romanzo works to secure resource development and fundraising for the organization.
At Robinson Bradshaw, Romanzo represents clients in high-stakes litigation including environmental and toxic tort claims, contract disputes, employment matters and class actions. Her environmental experience spans defending utilities in enforcement actions under the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, to handling litigation over coal combustion residuals for major utility companies. Romanzo also handles complex employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, Fair Credit Reporting Act, OSHA and wage-and-hour disputes, including class actions. She has significant experience advising clients on internal investigations and on e-discovery issues in litigation. In addition, Romanzo maintains an active pro bono practice representing indigent clients in a variety of matters.
Romanzo's Charlotte Business Journal profile is available here. When asked about her greatest professional accomplishment of the year, Romanzo said, "I joined Robinson Bradshaw in 2022 to expand the firm’s growing environmental practice. Since then, I have had the pleasure of forging meaningful relationships with my colleagues and our clients. I am proud of the excellent legal service we provide as of one of the strongest environmental practices in the state."
