North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has appointed Robinson Bradshaw litigator Mark W. Merritt to a six-year term on the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges. Merritt will represent Region 4, which includes Mecklenburg County and counties east. He previously served as vice chancellor and general counsel for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2016-18 before rejoining Robinson Bradshaw.

The State Board is the policy-making arm of the North Carolina Community College System, composed of 58 public community colleges. In addition to implementing policies and regulations, it is responsible for equitably distributing funds and ensuring fiscal accountability, establishing state priorities and approving educational programs.
