Insurance Basics for In-House Counsel

Robinson Bradshaw litigators Ben DeCelle and Spencer Wiles, joined by WakeMed’s associate general counsel Robby Desmond, provided an overview of key coverages and insurance policy terms, common exclusions, and recommended coverage types and amounts based on the insured’s business model and risk profile.

The panel also discussed common contractual provisions regarding insurance coverage obligations of contracting parties, filing claims with insurers (when and under what circumstances advisable) and disputing coverage denials. They shared trends in COVID-related coverage litigation.
