Erik Zimmerman spoke at the North Carolina Bar Association’s 2023 Appellate Practice Section Program, “Next-Level Appellate Practice.” As part of a panel that included appellate practitioners and a former North Carolina Supreme Court Justice, Zimmerman discussed effective amicus advocacy.

Amicus curiae briefs can play a critical role in appellate advocacy by highlighting facts, arguments and implications not already addressed by the parties. The panel offered diverse perspectives to identify best practices in amicus advocacy, including how parties can identify and solicit support from amici, how amicus counsel can most effectively advance their clients’ interests, and applicable procedural rules.
